Caterpillar Foundation partners with Manufacturing Institute to support veteran workforce development

March 17, 2021

As part of the Caterpillar Foundation’s focus on building resilient communities, it invests in the skills people need to join the modern workforce. A 2018 National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) study cites that 2.4 million manufacturing jobs are expected to go unfilled by 2028 due to the skills gap. To help address the skills gap, the Caterpillar Foundation is proud to support the Manufacturing Institute’s Heroes MAKE America initiative. Heroes is focused on building connections and career paths between the military community and the manufacturing industry. Through in-person and remote training, the Heroes training program provides members of the greater military community, including transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses, with the skills and certifications needed to be successful in manufacturing careers.

The Foundation’s investment is focused on two key areas:

  • Evolution of Heroes training to include the latest in virtual reality technology to support the greater military community regardless of physical location
  • Expansion of training pathways to broaden the skillsets supporting the workforce demands in modern manufacturing
