Caterpillar established its first major facility outside the United States more than 60 years ago in the United Kingdom. Today, the company employs over 10,000 people in the U.K. Our U.K. workforce represents nearly every part of Caterpillar’s business, including marketing and sales, manufacturing, parts distribution and remanufacturing and services.
The U.K. is one of the largest bases for Caterpillar outside the U.S., and our U.K. businesses export a significant portion of their manufactured products to a wide variety of customers and markets. Major industries served by Caterpillar in the U.K. include mining, marine, construction, industrial, quarry and aggregates and electric power.

Cat® branded construction equipment made in the U.K. serve customers in sectors such as earthmoving, aggregates, mining, construction, forestry and waste.
Cat® and Perkins branded diesel and gas engines power our own branded equipment as well as equipment in a wide variety of customer applications including agricultural, materials handling, general industrial, construction, marine and electric power generation. A range of off highway transmissions are also made in the U.K. through our Turner Transmissions business.
The Electric Power business in Northern Ireland designs and manufactures power solutions for key business sectors including data centers, construction, mining, healthcare, utilities and other industries.
Our U.K. service offering covers industry leading equipment and parts distribution for Caterpillar and third-party businesses. The U.K. is home to the European headquarters for the Cat® Reman business and Caterpillar Financial Services which provides financial support to our customers and dealers. Additionally, Caterpillar's large mining equipment division and the U.K. service operations of Caterpillar's Progress Rail Division also form part of the U.K. business.
Caterpillar has over 1,000 qualified engineers in the U.K. engaged in product research and development, and application engineering related activities.
