2020 marks Caterpillar’s 45th anniversary in China. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many challenges for customer engagement for the most of the year. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we were able to demonstrate our products and services at two big industry shows in Shanghai: The China International Import Expo (CIIE 2020) and bauma China 2020. The two events provided good opportunities to promote Caterpillar’s business and reputation in the current challenging environment.
Hosted by the Chinese government in partnership with international organizations including the WTO, UNCTAD and UNIDO, the CIIE was held from November 5-10. The Expo attracted nearly 400,000 professional visitors and concluded with a total of $73.62 billion intended deals signed, a 2% increase over the previous year. Both Caterpillar business teams and our dealers actively engaged with customers and landed multiple Letters of Intent and cooperation agreements.
This is the third consecutive year that Caterpillar participated in the event. Our displays featured products with improved energy efficiency and reduced emissions. We highlighted our long-term commitment to customers in China and demonstrated our ability to help customers build a sustainable future.
In collaboration with global teams, the Caterpillar China team presented another fantastic display at bauma China 2020. The event is China’s largest construction trade show and was held November 24-27. Themed “Let’s Do the Work,” the product displays reflected our enterprise strategy of focusing on expanding product offerings and lifecycle services that help customers build a better world.
Seventeen products, services capabilities, engines, and work tools were displayed at the Caterpillar booth. The Cat® GX, our new series of hydraulic excavators designed for Chinese customers, debuted at the show and garnered huge attention from the industry. Caterpillar and its dealers also unveiled Customer Value Agreements, which are aimed at maximizing customers’ benefits through one hassle-free maintenance plan. Our SEM brand’s booth displayed three SEM products introduced earlier this year and a concept prototype electric drive model 658D wheel loader.
At the show, the Caterpillar Foundation announced to invest up to $10 million in China over the next five years to support local communities in the areas of vocational training, STEM education, sustainable infrastructure, and access to basic services.
During the four days, we welcomed a total of 80,000 guests to the Caterpillar booth and attracted nearly 2.22 million virtual visitors through live broadcasting, which spread the impact beyond the show floor!
Caterpillar’s displays at the two events highlighted our commitment to customers and communities in China to build a better and more resilient world.
See how our team in Akashi, Japan has proudly supported our customers and given back to the community since 1960!
