Distributing Reliable Power for An International Food Distributor

Jerónimo Martins is the biggest food distribution company in Portugal. Because so many people rely on grocery stores, the company has back-up power sources to keep operations running.

The company recently installed two new C18 Power Density gensets and is impressed with the cost-benefit of the new model – high performance at a reduced cost.

It’s more than just choosing a solution; it’s about fostering a partnership. “We are extremely proud of our long-term relationship. We have performed many installations and have customer service agreements for all their gensets, both Cat and non-Cat. That says a lot about how much trust they put in us,” said Oscar Manuel Oliveira, Power Systems Product Manager with Cat dealer STET (Sociedade Técnica de Equipamentos e Tractores).

Airstrip Renovation at Night

At Frankfurt Airport, six Cat® excavators and their operators are on standby – not for a flight, but until the rental fleet from Cat dealer Zeppelin Rental can continue renovations on the “November” airstrip. It has endured 20 years of air traffic.

“This construction site is special,” said Julian Zimmermann, Project Manager at Johann Bunte. “A lot of planning went into it. Now, over one night, our team can renovate about 1,000 square meters. That means removing 1,500 tons of asphalt and foundation and moving 1,500 tons back in again.”

Efficiency and Affordability in Egypt

Near the banks of the Nile River, and just outside the city of Cairo near Beni Suef, Egypt, the construction of more than 10,000 greenhouses is under way. Starting in July 2019, and with a two-year timeline, completion is planned for 2021. The greenhouses will cover more than 63,000 acres.

The goal for this location is to produce 1.5 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables annually, which will help reduce the need to import produce and increase agricultural exports. “This is a relatively new method of agriculture here as we look to develop vertical agriculture, rather than horizontal agriculture,” added Seif ELDin Rady, On-Site Hose Solutions with Cat® dealer Mantrac Egypt.

To service the more than 200 machines on site, Cat® dealer Mantrac has installed a remote service location. Its main feature is a hose and coupling workshop. “We call it a Hose Assembly Mobile Workshop, or HAMW,” said Will Newbery, Hydraulics Aftermarket Services Consultant for Caterpillar. “It’s an on-site solution aimed at building three to five hose and coupling groups per day.”

Learn more about how growing produce is a growing opportunity for on-site hose and coupling workshops.
