Caterpillar was recently named to Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable U.S. Companies list for the first time.
Caterpillar debuted on the list at number 74. Barron’s worked with Calvert Research and Management to look at 230 ESG (environmental, social, and governance) metrics of the 1,000 largest publicly traded U.S. companies by market cap. This is Barron’s sixth year creating the list.
One reason cited for Caterpillar’s addition is our contribution to the circular economy – keeping more products and materials in use to reduce waste and emissions – thanks to our Cat® Reman team.
As Cat® Reman Senior Vice President Brian Edwards shared, “Remanufacturing is at the heart of the enterprise strategy for services growth and sustainability.”
Remanufacturing takes components that would otherwise be scrapped and turns them into like-new condition – decreasing the need for raw materials, water and energy associated with producing new parts. The process ultimately reduces the company’s environmental impact and helps our customers meet their sustainability-related goals.
We keep resources in the Caterpillar value chain wherever possible through a circular flow of materials, energy and water. Through these activities, we recycle millions of pounds of end-of-life products annually.
