The Caterpillar Foundation, the philanthropic organization for Caterpillar Inc., is committed to supporting natural infrastructure development, providing access to basic services and supporting disaster relief in the communities where we live and work around the world. While our planet is constantly changing, our goal has always stayed the same: building thriving, sustainable and resilient communities. The Caterpillar Inc. 2021 Sustainability Report takes a deeper look at our commitments to date, as well as our achievements over the past year.
We partnered with many great organizations in 2021, including The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International, World Resources Institute and One Tree Planted, that use innovative strategies to adapt to climate change and risk. Together through our joint efforts in reforestation, tree planting and improved water services, the Caterpillar Foundation and our partners restored over 530,000 acres, installed approximately 500 water system interventions and removed, sequestered or captured 2.3 million metric tons of carbon this year.
In honor of Caterpillar Inc.’s 95th anniversary, we worked with One Tree Planted to plant trees in 95 locations around the world. We’ve highlighted this project with a video of our efforts in Mexico, where we restored over 45 acres in the region.
By planting trees, we are not only helping the environmental ecosystem, we are also helping the people in these resilient communities by providing land to eat, play and learn. Trees can:
