Ownership Made Easy

If you’re thinking about purchasing a Cat Certified Used (CCU) piece of equipment in the near future, you might also want to consider a Customer Value Agreement (CVA). A CVA helps customers extend equipment life and get more from their investment – all while maximizing uptime and productivity. And, for Turkish mining and quarry company Dalbay-Akbay, combining their CCU machines with CVAs helped address many on-site needs.

“We have extended our quarry business, and along with our other 18 Cat machines, we have two 349D excavators from which we need high production and long-term performance,” said Uzeyir Kurumehmet, site chief at Dalbay-Akbay. “The combination of used equipment and CVAs helps limit any downtime, which is an important factor for our operations.”

In addition to CVAs, CCU machines save money up front. Customers can also be confident that the machines they are buying have a well-documented service history. “Many of our CCU machines come from our rental fleet,” added Ali Yavuzyigitoglu, Used Fleet supervisor for Cat dealer Borusan. “They’ve had all the preventative maintenance and service performed during their life here, so there are detailed records. And, of course, we only use Genuine Cat Parts, oils, filters and fluids, so machines are in very good operating health and in like-new condition. The combination of making good financial sense and machine durability makes CCU an attractive choice. Adding a CVA provides even more peace of mind.”

Veysel Erol, workshop manager at Dalbay-Akbay, sees the added value of putting CCU and CVAs together. “Reliability is vital, especially if we are running a double shift,” said Veysel. “We have end-to-end operations that require the operation and coordination of different types of machines simultaneously. Plus, our CVAs help us maintain a high level of production, an ideal spare parts inventory and we receive service quickly.”

Borusan first started establishing a trusted partnership with Dalbay-Akbay in 2018 through the purchase of the two 349D excavators mentioned before. Today, the dealer is also helping with technical and financial studies. “For example, through our low-hour, used fleet, now we are advising them about how used equipment can save money for their new sites in the Trakya and Adapazarı regions,” said Sedef Ozkan with Customer Support for Borusan. “These areas helped Dalbay-Akbay double their business and we were able to be there from the beginning to provide solutions like extending internal machine cycle times.”

Ali went on to say, “We began to offer Dalbay-Akbay CCU machines with CVAs packaged together toward the end of 2019. And, because we have a trusted relationship, they know if we are offering a package like that, it’s to help them succeed. Dalbay-Akbay has had such good experiences with CCU machines and CVAs, they have increased very quickly the number of machines that have a CVA. In fact, we have increased the percentage of CCU machines with CVAs from around 20 percent to 45 percent. There is a lot of competition out there. CCU machines with CVAs are just one more way that sets Cat machines apart from the rest.”
