John Shanahan

John Shanahan is a senior vice president of Caterpillar Inc., responsible for the Caterpillar Oil & Gas and Marine Division (COGMD). This division has worldwide responsibility for service offerings for the oil and gas and marine industries. This global organization includes sales and product support of engines in the oil and gas industry; manufacturing, sales, and product support of pressure pumping solutions for the oil and gas industry; sales and product support of medium and high-speed marine engines, generator sets and auxiliary engines. The oil & gas and marine portfolio includes Cat®, SPM Oil & Gas and MaK branded products distributed and supported through a global network of Cat and MaK dealers and direct to end customers through SPM Oil & Gas distribution centers and OEMs.

Shanahan has over 20 years of leadership experience in technical, commercial, and service-focused industries. Most recently, he served as vice president and general manager within COGMD, responsible for Caterpillar’s oil & gas business. Prior to this role, Shanahan served in progressive leadership roles within the E&T and Resource Industries segments focused on aftermarket and services delivery business models across Caterpillar.

Shanahan has a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and a master’s in business administration from Purdue University.
